Pakistan squash team off to good start in Kuwait

KARACHI, Feb 14: Pakistan squash team made a good start, winning all their second round matches in 14th Asian Senior Squash Championship underway in Kuwait on Thursday.

Shahid Zaman, currently ranked 57 on the world circuit, found Korean Lee Nyeon-HO an easy opponent to overpower and recorded a formidable 11-6, 11-2, 11-3 victory.

Compatriot Majid Khan registered an even more convincing triumph, thrashing Chang Chun Yu of Chinese Taipei 11-3, 11-5, 11-2.

In another second round match, Bilal Zaman overcame Iranian Ali Reza by a score-line 11-2, 11-4, 11-2. Meanwhile world No. 69 Yasir Butt didn’t had to face much resistance from Japan’s Jun Malsomoto before recording a 11-2, 11-4, 11-1 victory.

Top Pakistani squash female player Maria Toor defeated Sam Hai Tong from Macau in straight in the 1st round on Wednesday.

Earlier in the first round, Shahid Zaman and Yasir Butt got byes in the 1st round. While Majid Khan and Bilal Zaman won their respective matches on the 1st day of the eight-day tournament.
