QUETTA, Sept 30: Four shells of Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG-7) landed and exploded near Pakistan border in Chaman area on Saturday. The shells were allegedly fired by the Taliban militia, sources said.

The Pakistani border security officials while confirming firing of shells said that these were of RPG-7 calibre and these landed inside Afghanistan. However, no loss of life or other damage was reported from the other side of the border.

“These were test fires and part of military exercise we have started in Afghanistan,” Taliban officials told Pakistani border security officials when they talked to Taliban officials after the explosions.

Taliban authorities further informed the Pakistani border security officials that Taliban militia has started exercises which would continue for some more days as they were bracing for possible US attack on Afghanistan.

Reports reaching from across the border through Afghan nationals say that several thousands of Taliban militiamen were taking part in the military exercise while heavy weapons including tanks, canons, missiles and anti-aircraft guns were also in use of Taliban militia.

Sources in Chaman said that after landing of four RPG-7 shells near Pakistani border post, Kamal, the concerned authorities have tightened the security at the border with Afghanistan.

The explosion near Pakistani border spread panic among the people on this of the border.

Afghan refugees: The Chaman administration has pushed back around 400 Afghan refugees to Afghanistan having no legal documents for entering into Pakistan.

According to official sources the law enforcement agencies have arrested these Afghan refugees from different areas of the border town Chaman. They crossed into Pakistan illegally from unconventional route avoiding main border post at Chaman.

These refugees were brought to the border and sent back to Afghan area by the concerned authorities. They also include some women and children. It was second time that Pakistani authorities have pushed Afghan refugees to Afghanistan.

In the meanwhile the border security personnel have taken five active workers of religious party into custody when they reached at the border to cross into Afghanistan without having any legal travelling documents.

“They wanted to cross into Afghanistan to join hands with Taliban forces form taking part in holy war against United States of America who had announced to attack Afghanistan if Osama Bin Laden was not handed over to US government,” an officer of Chaman administration said.

Five active workers of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam who were not allowed to enter into Afghanistan without having legal travelling documents include Laiqe Ahmed, Mohammad Tariq, Israr Ahmed, Abdul Wahab and Ghulam Murtaza.
