PML-N rules capital

ISLAMABAD, Feb 18: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) made a clean sweep in the federal capital by clinching the two National Assembly seats.

According to unofficial results, Anjum Aqeel Khan of PML-N won the NA-48 seat while Tariq Fazal Chaudhry NA-49 seat.

Though the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had high hopes of success of its candidates Dr Israr Shah in NA-48 and former MNA Nayyar Hussain Bokhari in NA-49, the party could not win even a single seat.

Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, who was stated to be quite sure about his success, challenged the results and demanded recounting of votes when he was told that he had lost. The Election Commission of Pakistan accepted the demand and recounting of votes continued till the filing of this news.

Mr Bokhari’s failure to clinch the seat is being considered a major upset in Islamabad as he was elected from the same constituency in the 2002 general elections.

Contrary to the expectations that the PPP would bag sympathy votes in the election for NA-48 slot, party’s candidate Dr Israr Shah lost too.
