KARACHI: Murder suspects remanded

KARACHI, Feb 23: The civil judge and judicial magistrate-X, South, Asif Ahmed, on Saturday, remanded two accused for their alleged involvement in the murder of renowned artist Abdul Mohammad Ismail Gulgee, his wife, and a maidservant in police custody till Feb 26.

The accused, Akram Ali, Gulgee’s driver, and his associate Anwar were arrested on Feb 16, by the Anti-Violent Crime Unit (AVCU) in a hotel near Cantonment railway station. The AVCU also recovered looted cash, precious paintings and a briefcase of the deceased, Guljee, from their possession.

According to the prosecution, Gulgee, his wife Zareen Gulgee and their maidservant Asiya were strangled to death by unidentified men in their house situated in the Boat Basin police limits on Dec 19, 2007. The bodies recovered by the police were three days old while the driver and a servant had gone missing along with a car belonging to the deceased.

The police had registered a case (FIR No 490/07) at Boat Basin police station under the Section 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. An identification parade of the accused will be held on Feb 25.
