HYDERABAD: 182 receive degrees at Isra University convocation

HYDERABAD, Feb 24: The Isra University awarded degrees to 182 graduates at the university’s 5th convocation held here on Saturday.

The university’s chancellor Prof Dr Ghulamqadir Kazi awarded bachelor’s degrees in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) to 72 graduates, MPhil degrees in Basic Medical Sciences to five, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration, Information Technology, Telecommunications and Computer Science to 60 and 45 graduates.

Prof Kazi congratulated the recipients of degrees and medals and said: “Isra Islamic Foundation, which owns this university, is a non-profit organisation that stands to serve mankind through education, healthcare and social welfare.”

Earlier, vice-chancellor Prof Dr Asadullah Kazi said that the number of students enrolled had increased from 28 in October 1997 to more than 1,250 by the middle of November 2007.

Atif Ahmed Khan Yousuf Zai, Sawak Memon, Sumera Kazi and Maria Sani Memon were awarded gold and silver medals whereas Sehrish Arejo was awarded a silver medal.

DCO: Hyderabad DCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri has urged the officers of Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and traffic police to enforce transport and traffic rules to ensure smooth flow of traffic. He said while presiding over a meeting of RTA at his camp office on Saturday that the district government was working on more than 14 different development schemes for flyovers, underpasses, bridges and traffic engineering system that would be enough to meet traffic requirements for the next 25 years.

He asked the RTA to keep strict watch on the registered passenger vehicles and check if the management of transport companies implemented all the conditions set down in their route permit.
