Punjab U-17 football enters quarters stage

LAHORE, Feb 27: The Punjab inter-district Under-17 football championships entered its quarter-final stage at different grounds at the end of the pool matches here on Wednesday.

Faisalabad, Nankana Saheb, Khanewal, Okara, Layyah, Toba Tek Singh, Bhakhar and Sargodha made it to the last eight.

The matches are being played at the Punjab Stadium, Iqbal Park Sports Complex and Government College, University grounds.

Faisalabad brushed aside Mandi Bahauddin 3-0 with Ghazanfar Abbas, Sohaib Ikram and Ghulam Fareed striking a goal each.

Two-goal each by Mujahid Ali and Babar Hussain helped Nankana Saheb crush Muzaffargarh 5-0. Naeem Akhtar added one goal.

Okara after playing a goalless draw against Lahore entered the quarter-finals on a better goal average.

Toba Tek Singh ousted Jhelum 3-0 with Mohammad Irfan, Imran Shafique and Umar scoring one each. Bhakhar outplayed Jhang 3-1 as Wasif scored two and Adnan Khan one.

Sargodha despite playing a goalless draw against Bahawalnagar also entered the last eight.

Khanewal and Layyah have already qualified for the quarter-finals.
