NAWABSHAH: Two sisters kidnapped
NAWABSHAH, Feb 29: Two sisters were kidnapped by armed men from village Ali Nawaz Jamali near Bandhi on Thursday.
Kulsoom and Hayat Khatoon, daughters of Ali Hassan Rind, were kidnapped from their house near Bandhi at gunpoint.
Ali Hassan Rind, father of the girls told reporters that they were asleep when some armed men got hold of the family at gunpoint and kidnapped his two daughters.
He said that he was approaching influential people of his area for the recovery of his daughters as he had recognised one of the kidnappers.
The SHO of Bandhi police station said that he was unaware of any such incident.
PROFANE IMAGES: Students of the Quaid-i-Awam University of Engineering Science and Technology took out a procession and held a demonstration outside the press club here on Friday in protest against the publication of blasphemous images in Denmark papers.
Hundreds of students gathered at the N-sector of university from where they marched to reach the press club. Enraged students burnt tyres at Sakrand road and the national flag of Denmark at the press club.
Students and others strongly condemned the publication of blasphemous images. They demanded of the government to sever all diplomatic relations with Demark immediately.
PILGRIMS INJURED: More than 10 pilgrims were injured when a trailer collided with a coaster on the National Highway near Qazi Ahmed on Friday.
A Khairpur-bound coaster coming from Karachi carrying Shia pilgrims collided with the trailer at Karimabad stop as a result of which more than 10 passengers were injured.
The injured were identified as Mohammad Ali, Yawar Abbas, Bilal Raza, Syed Hyder Abbas Zaidi, Syed Ali Shah and others.
All the passengers of the coaster were going to Kotdiji in district Khairpur to attend a religious gathering.
GRANTED BAIL: The second additional and sessions’ judge Masood Ahmed Korejo on Thursday granted bail to more than 50 activists of Pakistan Muslim League-Q for Rs30,000 each in different cases involving charges of attacking polling stations and obstructing polling process on Feb 18.
They include Dr Bahadur Dahri, PML-Q candidate for PS-28, Ashiq Dahiri, former taluka nazim of Doulatpur, Dr Ali Mohammad Dahiri, Ameer Bux Dahiri, Abdul Rasheed Kubar, Mehmood Bugo and Nooruddin Unnar. They face different cases involving charges of attacks on polling stations and disturbing polling process.
Judicial Magistrate-III Inayatullah Bhutto granted bail to Sub-Inspector Imdad Mallah, investigation officer of Gupchani police station, on Rs6,000 on Thursday.
The magistrate had earlier sent the investigation officer to jail on Wednesday for avoiding to appear in court in a case pending for a long time.
WATER SHORTAGE: Growers of Malwah branch and Jadoo minor continued their token hunger strike on the third day in a camp outside the local press club here on Friday against shortage of irrigation water.
Growers, including Shahnawaz Khoso, Khamiso Khoso, and others demanded of the irrigation officials of Dad to release water for their barren lands and save them from financial losses.
Meanwhile, growers whose lands are irrigated by Malwah Branch and Jadoo Minor of Dad irrigation division observed a token hunger strike outside the press club on Thursday in protest against shortage of water.
