COLOMBO, March 4: Sri Lankan troops have pushed further into Tigers-held territory in the north killing over 80 guerillas, military officials said on Tuesday.

Troops brought an LTTE-held area on the Uliyankulam-Andankulam road in northern Mannar under their control early on Tuesday, officials said, stating that 49 soldiers were injured.

On Monday, fighter aircraft of the Air Force destroyed an LTTE transmission centre in northern Mullativu while a rebel base in Jaffna was also bombed, defence authorities said.

Meanwhile in Colombo, a constitutional expert, who held a government post of senior adviser, has resigned, stating that he has lost faith in the present parliament’s ability of finding a political solution to the Tamil ethnic problem.
