STP opposes Karachi housing projects

HYDERABAD, March 6: Rejecting Karachi Strategic Plan 2020, which includes Waterfront Sugarland City, Diamond Island City and Taiser Town, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party has said that 3.5 million Sindhi and Baloch residents of Karachi will resist the projects to protect their villages and houses.

A meeting of the central committee of the party, held here on Wednesday and presided over by STP chief Dr Qadir Magsi, alleged that the plan, chalked out by the Karachi city district government, was aimed at expelling Sindhi and Baloch people from Karachi.

It said that more than 1,200 villages populated by Sindhi and Baloch people would be demolished to create space for the housing projects β€˜to advance the conspiracy of Jinnahpur.’

It said that ethnic tension was on the increase in Karachi which could destroy an atmosphere of peace and brotherhood throughout Sindh.

The meeting alleged that some Dehs of Thatta and Jamshoro districts were being handed over to the Karachi city district government and that was the reason that the Kutchi Abadi Authority had been abolished. It warned that the conspiracies would be resisted by the people and demanded abandoning of the projects, handing over of the coastal belt to Sindh government, regularisation of Sindhi and Baloch villages in Karachi with provision of basic facilities and restoration of the authority. It also demanded cancellation of appointments in Sindh government departments through back door.

The meeting decided to celebrate founding day of the party in a befitting manner on March 21, for which a committee headed by Dr Abdul Hameed Memon was appointed.

The meeting dissolved the student, labour, peasant and women wings of the party and appointed committees to reorganise the wings.
