PML-Q leader quits party: Wrong policies

LAHORE, March 7: Dr Nabila Tariq, the PML-Q central joint secretary-cum-provincial vice-president, on Friday resigned from the basic membership and party office due to ‘wrong policies’ of the leaders.

In a resignation letter to Secretary-General Syed Mushahid Husain, Dr Nabila said even after losing the general election, which was more of an anti-Musharraf verdict, the party leadership was stuck with old habits of taking dictations from Pervez Musharraf.

“When people have rejected policies of President Pervez Musharraf, why should the PML-Q leadership follow them,” she said. The entire party leadership had been reduced to a family accepting dictatorial decisions, came a remark from her.

“The PML-Q has also lost touch with ground realities. Poor law and order situation has shaken society, but the party sticks to the policies that disrupted peace and worsened lawlessness. Two provinces -- the NWFP and Balochistan -- are up in arms and full-fledged revolt is brewing because of policies of Pervez Musharraf, but the PML-Q is still taking his advice and putting the country in crisis,” the departing leader observed.

Pervaiz: PML-Q leader Pervaiz Elahi says the party will be reorganised at grassroots level.

Addressing party office-bearers and leaders from different districts here on Friday, the former Punjab chief minister asked all the party ticket-holders to work with same spirit as they did in the last five years, says a press release. He urged the participants to maintain a close contact with the masses and help them resolve their problems at their doorsteps.

He said the weaknesses due to which the party had lost the Feb 18 general elections would be addressed and genuine party workers would be awarded and promoted.

He said the membership drive and consultative meetings should also be started, especially in the Punjab province, besides mass contact drive to reorganise the party.

Muhammad Basharat Raja, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, Husain Jehanian Gardezi, Dildar Ahmed Cheema, Ch Arshad, Rafiuddin and Mian Munir were among those who attended the meeting.
