HYDERABAD: Lawyers protest across Sindh

HYDERABAD, March 9: Lawyers started observing ‘black flag week’ in different parts of Sindh on Sunday in response to the call of the Pakistan Bar Council and Supreme Court Bar Association to pressurise the authorities to reinstate deposed judges of superior courts.

The lawyers gathered at High Court Bar Association’s Hyderabad chapter premises and held a general meeting which was presided over by Abdul Sattar Kazi, president of the HCBA.

The meeting was attended by general secretary Allah Bachayo Soomro, former general secretary Hyderabad District Bar Association Noorul Haq Qureshi, joint secretary HCBA Ayaz Tunio.

The lawyers would stage a protest rally on Monday and boycott the courts as per programme announced for black flag week.

A black flag was also hoisted on the bar room in high court building.

Lawyers wore black armbands and vowed to continue their struggle till reinstatement of judges and restoration of 1973 Constitution on its pre-October 12, 1999 position.

In Mirpurkhas, the DBA members hoisted black flags at main chowks and roads of the city.

DBA President Salahuddin Panhwar told reporters that black flags had also been hoisted at Umerkot, Khipro, Digri, Kot Ghulam Mohammad and towns to record their protest.

He appealed to the civil society to participate in this campaign to press the government for restoration of judges and independence of judiciary.

He said that black flags were also being hoisted at houses of all lawyers. He said that on Monday, DBA Mirpurkhas would completely boycott the court proceedings and will take out rally.

In Sukkur, scores of lawyers staged a protest demonstration outside the local press club. They were shouting slogans against the government.
