Family pins hopes on Indian SC

BAHAWALPUR, March 9: The Supreme Court of India has admitted the application of Mubashir Ali for hearing against the alleged illegal detention of his brother, Sohail Shehzad, in an Indian jail.

Dawn learnt from Mubashir’s family the Indian Supreme Court took up the application on Saturday (March 8) and ordered the Indian government to report in one month why Sohail Shehzad, a Pakistani national, acquitted of charges by an Indian court, was detained in the jail.

Sohail Shehzad, of Fauji Basti, has been lodged in Jaipur Jail for the last 20 years. His mother appealed to the government of Pakistan to intervene and step up efforts for the release of his son from Indian jail.
