APNS asks govt to withdraw amendments in press law

KARACHI, March 11: The executive committee of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society has expressed dismay over what it called the government’s inordinate delay in withdrawing the ‘black amendments’ made to the press laws at the time of the promulgation of emergency on November 3 last year.

At a recent meeting held in Islamabad, the committee authorised the APNS president Hameed Haroon to take suitable measures to stress upon the interim government to unconditionally repeal the amendments as assured by caretaker Information Minister Nisar Memon.

Another resolution adopted at the meeting strongly condemned the threats from militant organisations to publishers and journalists in Balochistan and the assassination of Dr Chishti Mujahid. The resolution urged the Balochistan government to take immediate measures to provide appropriate security to media personnel.
