HYDERABAD: ST calls for strike on Friday

HYDERABAD, March 12: The Sindh chapter of the Sunni Tehrik on Wednesday gave call for province-wide peaceful strike on Friday, March 14, in protest against the republication of blasphemous cartoons in Danish print media.

The party’s provincial convenor Allama Noor Ahmed Qasmi and other party leaders said at a news conference at the press club that if the rulers did not sever diplomatic relations with Denmark, the Tehrik would be justified in giving a call for countrywide strike.

They regretted Pakistani rulers had not taken any measure against Denmark and other European countries nor severed diplomatic relations with these countries, and appealed to trade organisations, trade unions, transporters and members of general public to make the strike a success.

They appealed to lawyers to cancel black flag campaign on the auspicious day of Jashn-i-Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) when the faithful hoisted green flags on their roof tops. The black flags, therefore, should be removed on this day, they urged.

They announced that the Tehrik would stage a rally in Hyderabad on the strike day after Friday congregation, which would march from Phulelli Tanga Stand to Hyder Chowk.

COMPUTER EXHIBITION: The chairman of the Hyderabad Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Prof. Sultan Abbas on Wednesday urged students to pay special attention to science and computer education to be able to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Speaking as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony for two-day science and computer exhibition at Pakistan Pilot College Latifabad he said that it was teachers’ responsibility also to instil in their students a keen interest in the two subjects.
