LARKANA: Villagers, police trade allegations over man’s death

LARKANA, March 14: Protesters blocked the Larkana-Sukkur Road on Friday in protest against police for allegedly killing a villager.

People from ‘Daro Labano’ village near Naudero carrying the dead body found in wheat field demanded registration of FIR against police.

Brothers of the deceased and others accused Yakoob Channa, a police constable for killing Mumtaz Jarwar to avenge murder of his relative Arbab Channa. They ended the protest and cleared the road on assurance of DSP Mukhtiar Saryo and the SHO Naudero to register a case.

Naudero police, later on the compliant of police constable Yakoob Channa registered FIR against the deceased.It alleged that police deployed at ‘Panjodero’ post on late Thursday night noticed suspicious movement of outlaws in the area. As they challenged firing began and in cross-fire Mumtaz Jarwar got killed while others escaped.

However, according to protesters the deceased had gone to listen to traditional music at ‘Lateef Shah’ and alleged police for killing him while he was returning home.

The DPO Larkana Ghulam Rasool Domki contesting the claim told journalists at Naudero police station that the deceased was a known criminal and had been jailed for six years and cases were pending against him with Naudero and Ratodero police stations.

The villagers again in the evening demonstrated and staged sit-in at Larkana-Sukkur Road as police did not lodge their FIR.

The police assured them of FIR registration after which they called off the protest.

PROTEST: People protesting against regular power cut of Lal Bakhsh Bugti, Rohal Bugti, Faqeer Muhamemd Bugti villages by Hesco, demonstrated and blocked Larkana-Karachi Road.

They asked Hesco officials not to suspend supply to villages as residents become soft target of outlaws.
