Pak Edition lands feature event at LRC midweek races
LAHORE, March 19: Chestnut colt Pak Edition put on a smashing performance to land the feature event during the midweek Lahore gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
The three to one chance colt piloted by Shakeel Mahmood set a hot pace right from the very start in order to beat My Delilah by five lengths. Love Minister and Honest Minister completed the frame among the 10 runners. The winner clocked 57 seconds on the dust track in the the over 900 metres race, the sixth one in the racing order.
The third race was delayed by 45 minutes when the Lahore Race Club (LRC) decided to stop all proceedings midway to telecast the newly-elected speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza’s oath taking ceremony.
Long shot chestnut filly Arzoo upset all calculations by winning the supporting and fifth race. Ridden by the riding boy Ali Raza, the filly shot in to lead by 200 metres to beat the favourite Pick Of The Day by a length’s margin. Rang Dey Basanti finished third and the filly Freeze was fourth.
The day’s best performer was the raging favourite bay mare Hermatic. Ridden by the riding boy S. Ammad and trained by Tauqeer Ahmad, the six-year-old mare beat God’s Gift by two and a half lengths with Victory King and Dimple finishing third and fourth, respectively.
Riding boy Majid Ali excelled in the saddle bringing home a brace of winners. Majid steered Sherni in the opener and then followed it up with a fluent victory on Shahbaz Love in the seventh and last race of the day. Both the winners were sent out by trainer M. Hanif. Only three favourites won in a card of seven events.
