Rams rout Dolphins in one-sided cup clash

KARACHI, March 24: Discarded Test paceman Yasir Ali captured a four-wicket haul to help Rawalpindi Rams rout Karachi Dolphins by 10 wickets in a third round fixture of the ABN-Amro National One-day Cricket Championship at the National Stadium here on Monday.

Yasir’s 4-25 sent Dolphins hurtling to 178 all out after Rams skipper Naveed Qureshi asked the hosts to bat first. Barring Faraz Patel (80) and Akbar Rehman (56), the rest of Dolphins batting crumbled under pressure.

Babar Naeem then bludgeoned 96 and the upcoming Umar Amin a superb 83 as the visitors reached their target in the 29th over.

In other Group ‘D’ matches, ZTBL defeated SSGC by five wickets at the NBP Sports Complex and PIA also won by same margin against Abbottabad Rhinos in Hyderabad.

Our Sports Reporter adds from Lahore: Pakistan wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal hammered 133 to lead a National Bank run feast in the Group ‘C’ match against Karachi Zebras at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

Kamran blasted 11 fours and sixes in his 132-ball knock to help the bankers reach a mammoth 373-2. Nasir Jamshed hit up 87 off 73 balls with 10 fours while skipper Naumanullah returned to form by striking a 67-ball 72 not out (four fours and one six).

Shahid Yousuf played a cameo innings, smashing 62 off 34 balls with four sixes and three fours.

The Zebras did well to get 299 in reply with Afsar Nawaz making 96 off 109 balls (10 fours and one six).

In a high-scoring tie at Gaddafi Stadium, Faisalabad Wolves downed Lahore Eagles by 17 runs.

In Group ‘B’, SNGPL thrashed Hyderabad Hawks by 124 run in Sheikhupura while Sialkot Stallions rode on a Kamran Younis century (103 off 100 balls, four sixes and two fours) to defeat Multan Tigers by five wickets.

Sports Reporter adds from Islamabad: Bazid Khan played a sterling undefeated knock of 106 to guide KRL to a narrow three-wicket victory over Islamabad Leopards in the Group ‘A’ fixture at the Diamond Club Ground.

The Pakistan reject stroked seven fours and a brace of sixes during his 117-ball innings as KRL made 279-7 with five balls remaining.

Earlier, Ashar Zaidi was the mainstay for the Leopards. The left-hander scored 101 off 121 balls with nine boundaries. Pakistan paceman Yasir Arafat claimed five for 45.

Meanwhile, despite reaching 286-5 in their 50 overs, Quetta Bears lost to Lahore Lions by two wickets at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Habib Bank made up for their defeat to KRL on Saturday by scoring a 46-run win against Peshawar Panthers in Peshawar. Riffatullah Mohmand (93), Sajid Shah (82) and Abdul Rehman (4-65) were the standout performers for the winners.
