KARACHI: Pre-arrest bail granted

KARACHI, April 8: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday granted interim pre-arrest bail to Dr Riaz Ahmed, an associate professor of the applied chemistry department of Karachi University, against a surety bond of Rs100,000.

Advocate Rashid Razvi submitted a pre-arrest bail application of his client to Sindh High Court Chief Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro and argued that his client was the victim of the incident and Rangers personnel had beaten him up on the premises of Karachi University on March 21 and registered a case against him with mala fide intent. He said his client was entitled to bail since it was not a serious offence.

The police had registered a case (FIR No 73/08) against Dr Riaz under Sections 337-F, 353, 332, 186 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Mobina Town police station on the compliant of Havaldar Anwarul Haq of the Sindh Rangers.
