IHC reduces 3 Nigerians’ sentence

ISLAMABAD, April 9: A division bench of Islamabad High Court here Wednesday reduced jail sentence of three convicted Nigerian drug pushers by three years.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Aslam and Justice Dr Sajid Qureshi hearing the bail application of Mr Landa, Mr George and Mr Sena, also directed their deportation to their country immediately.

They were sentenced to seven years imprisonment each for carrying 717 grams heroin.

Advocate Rizwan Abbasi, counsel for the appellants, assured the court that his clients were ready to be deported and would not return.

He maintained that since they had already spent three years in prison, therefore rest of the punishment should be rescinded.

The same bench also accepted an appeal of another drug convict Javed Akhtar and reduced his jail term by three years.

Advocate Raja Mohammad Aslam apprised the court that the convict was arrested in 2003 after recovery of charas from his house at Rawat.

He contended that FIR was tempered besides, discrepancy in the statements of eye witnesses.

He prayed to court to consider the senility of the convict on humanitarian grounds.—APP
