Lower-grade employees seek salary
DADU, April 30: More than 30 lower-grade employees of the education department started hunger strike unto death outside the press club here on Wednesday in protest against non-payment of salary for last 10 months.
The protesters also staged a rally, which marched on the roads carrying banners and raising slogans against treasury and education officials.
President of Lower Staff Association Hajan Panhwar who led the protest said that the department had recruited over 300 lower-grade employees after they passed a written test and interviews.
But the officials of district accounts and treasury office were releasing salary only to the employees who were paying them bribe and refusing to release monthly payment to the lower-grade employees who had refused to grease their palms, he alleged.
He demanded that the authorities concerned take action against the corrupt officials and ensure release of salary of the poor employees.
DEMO: A large number of jobless youths staged a demonstration outside the Dadu branch of the National Bank of Pakistan on Wednesday for failing to hand them over rickshaws.
The protesters, led by Badaruddin Solangi, Ayoub Solangi, Ramzan Solangi and Mazhar Hussain Solangi alleged that the bank officials were asking for Rs5,000 more from each person as bribe in return for handing over the rickshaw.
They appealed to the bank’s president and the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan to order action against the corrupt bank officials and solve their problem.
RALLY: A large number of women and children of a minority community staged a rally on Wednesday in protest against delay in arrest of the accused nominated in kidnapping and gang-rape case of a Hindu woman.
The protesters also staged a demonstration outside the press club and blocked the road for three hours. Minority councillor, Badshahzadi and the president of Pakistan People’s Party minorities wing, Dileep Kumar led the protest.
Badshahzadi alleged that the investigation police were not taking much interest in arresting the accused nominated in the FIR of kidnapping and gang-rape case of Reshma Bagri.She said that they had gone to investigation police but the officials were not ready to meet them and warned that if action was not taken against police and the nominated accused were not arrested they would continue their protest.
Later, a police party raided Chhandan village and arrested one of the accused Jumoo Panhawar.—Correspondent
