HYDERABAD: Call for promoting girls’ education

HYDERABAD, May 2: Bishop Rafiq Masih has called upon the public sector organisations to discharge their responsibilities for promotion of girls’ education, particularly in remote areas of Sindh.

He was speaking at a ceremony held on completion of development work carried out at Piggot Memorial Girls Higher Secondary School.

He said that in the present age of modernisation and globalisation women of developed countries had earned a social, economic, educational, political status but unfortunately in Pakistan women had few opportunities as compared to men in different walks of life.

He underlined the need for formation of policies that could promote girls education and said that public sector must fix priorities to implement the policies of girls’ education.

He said Piggot School was one of the popular schools of Hyderabad and many famous personalities belong to this school.

He said that mothers and grandmothers should play their role in promotion of education by advocating girls’ right of education.

He said only literacy could help the nation to move ahead in right direction on the path of progress and prosperity.

The bishop appreciated the efforts of school principal madam Georgiana Griffin and said that her efforts and struggle made the renovation of the school possible and hoped that she would help in formulating and implementing girls’ education policies.

He said that due to poverty, socio-cultural problems and for different reasons female education was still much behind than what it should have been now.

Earlier, the principal of the school, Georgiana Griffin, said that in order to improve girls’ education it is essential to change or improve the general public attitude towards the social and educational status of female by giving awareness about IT and computer technology which places man and woman on equal status in all respect.

She said that struggle was very necessary in every field of life and without difficulties nobody achieves any goal and work hard wants dedication and love in their own respective fields.

She said that education play key role in removing all misunderstandings among the people regarding language, ethnic and religion.

Later, the bishop distributed awards, shields and certificates among those teachers who had served the school over 10 years.

The bishop awarded best teacher award and two appreciation shields to Ms Dorthy who had been teaching in the school since 45 years. Schoolteacher, lecturers, notables and principals and teachers of the different schools attended the function.
