Sami stars in MHCC win

KARACHI, May 12: Former Test paceman Mohammad Sami’s splendid all-round performance led Mohammad Hussain Cricket Club (MHCC) to an exciting 16-run victory over Tapal CC in the Wallis Mathias Trophy Memorial cricket final at the NBP Sports Complex here on Sunday.

Sami smashed a rapid-fire 68 with seven fours and three sixes besides capturing three wickets for 44.

Electing to bat first, MHCC made 242 for nine in the stipulated 40 overs. Besides Sami’s excellent batting, Mohammad Ali blasted four sixes and five fours in his unbeaten 62.

Off-spinner Iqbal Sheikh grabbed three wickets for 54 in his eight overs.

Tapal CC, in reply, could reach 226 before being dismissed in 38.2 overs. Captain Ahmed Zeeshan Malik played a defiant knock of 85 laced with ten boundaries and brace of sixes.

MHCC trio of Sami, Mohammad Ali and Ali Hussain claimed three wickets each.

Ahmed Zeeshan Malik (best batsman) and Kamran Umar (best bowler) were given special awards while Sami was named man-of-the-final.
