HYDERABAD: Mills workers to go on strike

HYDERABAD, May 16: A number of sacked workers of Faran Sugar Mills in Shaikh Bhirkio, Tando Mohammad Khan, left for Garhi Khuda Bux, Larkana, on Friday, where they will stage hunger strike unto death at Benazir Bhutto’s grave against their retrenchment.

The workers started their march from Shaikh Bhirkio and arrived here on late Thursday.

They passed the night on footpaths and left for Garhi Khuda Bux in the morning after staging a protest outside the press club.

They told reporters that 426 workers were sacked by the mill administration and false cases were registered against the union leaders and workers.

DEMO: Activists of Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Tando Mohammad Khan chapter, staged a protest sit-in on Hyderabad-Badin road against non-payment of outstanding dues to growers by Tando Mohammad Khan sugar mills.

They said that an amount of Rs120 million was outstanding against the mills and alleged that it had issued fake cheques to growers.
