Pakistan team wins silver and bronze in Asian championship

LAHORE, May 17: The two-member Pakistan wushu (kung-fu) team participating in the 7th Asian Wushu Championship in Macau, won one silver and one bronze medal on Saturday, the concluding day of the tournament.

It was an encouraging performance on the part of the short-strength team, which managed to win two medals in the Chinese martial art at a time when winning a medal has become difficult in almost all the disciplines.

Samiullah, who had reached the final earlier, won the silver medal after being beaten by his Chinese opponent in the 75kg fight category.

Meanwhile, Syed Maratib Ali proved unlucky in overcoming the hosts’ player in the 60kgs semi-final bout.

Secretary, Pakistan Wushu Federation Malik Iftikhar Ahmed has termed the players’ performance as brilliant. “We participated in the event with a two-member team with very low resources and insufficient facilities but the results have been rather good,” he said.—APP
