HYDERABAD: MPA wants changes in exam system

HYDERABAD, May 21: People’s Party MPA Humera Alwani has said that keeping in view the prevailing conditions in the educational examination system, it is imperative to bring in drastic change in the examination system.

She said the deteriorating standard and quality of education throughout Sindh requires immediate attention and urgent steps to save the whole generation from catastrophe. She said that it was essential for improvement of standard and quality of education that efforts must be made to discourage the use of unfair means and cheating in examinations.

Addressing a news conference, the PPP legislator said that she would submit a draft bill for the elimination of copy culture and cheating in exams to avoid further deterioration of education in the province.

Ms Alwani said that it had been observed that during examinations, students and their supporters inside and outside the examination centres use guides and manage to obtain solved papers.

She said that since there was no law to regulate the examination system and to stop copy culture, the law must be extended to include regulation of examination centres throughout the province.

She said that the bill was aimed at reviewing various issues and factors responsible for increasing tendency towards the use of unfair means in examinations. She said that a comprehensive legislation must be introduced for putting an end to illicit practices.

She said the proposed law would cover the whole scope of examinations and would deal effectively with elements who indulge in malpractices during exams. She said such law would entail appropriate penalties, including social disadvantages for offenders.

She said that malpractice such as leaking of papers before exams, changing answer sheets, misconduct in examination centres, making false entries in examination register and sale of solved papers around the examination centres would have to be checked at all costs.
