HYDERABAD: Consultation on disaster management cell continues

HYDERABAD, May 27: District Naib Nazim Zafar Rajput has said that the district government is consulting stakeholders and technical experts and organizations to prepare a comprehensive blue print of a district disaster management cell.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of a four-day training workshop on “Governance and disaster risk reduction” organized by the Aga Khan Planning and Building Services in collaboration with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre here on Monday.

Mr Rajput said that the district government had formed a committee headed by the district nazim which was in touch with technical organizations and experts to establish an effective and well-equipped organization to minimize losses of natural and man-made disasters in the district.

He said that ongoing geological and environmental changes had posed challenges for human race and it had become imperative for nations to evolve an effective disaster management system to meet any eventuality of any kind of disaster.

He said that a disaster was dangerous and fatal not only for the affected areas but it also inflicted financial and human losses on a country and destroyed its civic and communication network.

He said that preventive measures with public awareness programmes were essential to reduce the losses of disasters.
