Protesters demand sewerage system

SIALKOT, June 4: Hundreds of people on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration in front of district nazim office and blocking Kashmir Road against non-provision of drainage and sewerage system to more than 30,000 population of the congested Pakka Garha locality.

The locality had been without the civic facilities for last many decades.

The protesters, holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the district government, blocked the traffic on kashmir Road and then gathered in front of district nazim’s office.

They alleged District Nazim Akmal Cheema was creating hurdles in construction of sewerage system in the locality as his party had failed to bag desired votes in Feb 18 polls from there.

The district nazim exchanged harsh words with the protesters in front of his office.

The protesters said in absence of drainage system, the sewage and rainwater entered the houses in the locality.

They said the stench emanating from the overflowing sewage had made life miserable for the residents.

Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully after DCO Atta Muhammad Khan assured them that the problem would be resolved on a priority basis.
