KARACHI: Pathan indicted in arms, drugs case
KARACHI, June 9: Civil judge and judicial magistrate-III, South, Ashraf Hussain Khwaja on Monday indicted Agha Javed Pathan (the man also accused of manhandling former chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim in April) in two cases registered against him under the Arms Ordinance and the Control of Narcotic Substance Act. He was charged with possessing illegal arms, hashish and a stolen motorcycle. He pleaded not guilty and opted for standing trial.
The court ordered prosecution witnesses to record their statements on July 5.
According to the prosecution, Agha Pathan was arrested on April 9 for attacking Dr Arbab in the Sindh Assembly building. Four cases were registered under the FIR Nos.199/08, 200/08, 201/08, 202/08 against him under Section 392 of the Pakistan Penal Code, 13-D of the Arms Ordinance and Section 6/9-A of the Control of Narcotic Substance Act at Preedy police station, and under sections 502, 452, 506-B 337-A and F of the Pakistan Penal Code. He was found in possession of illegal weapons, hashish and a stolen motorcycle.
Meanwhile, judicial magistrate-X, South, Asif Ahmed on Monday re-issued notices to prosecution witnesses in the manhandling case against Javed Pathan. The court directed the prosecution witnesses to appear in the court on the next date of hearing and record their statements. The court adjourned the matter till July 5.
Earlier, the court had indicted Agha Pathan in a case pertaining to manhandling of former Sindh chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.
A case (FIR No 92/2008) was registered under Section 365-A of the Pakistan Penal Code at Solider Bazaar police station.
Kidnap and murder case
The administrative judge of the Anti-terrorism Courts, Karachi, Dr Rana Mohammad Shamim, on Monday remanded two suspects into jail custody till June 16 in a kidnapping and murder case.
The suspects, Nawaz and Iftikhar, were arrested on May 30 in Bhitai Colony, Korangi Crossing.
According to the prosecution, the accused had kidnapped Shaikh Mohammad Aslam, owner of a jewelry shop located on Tariq Road, on April 25 from near Khadda Market. The kidnappers had demanded Rs3 million ransom from his family. Later, during negotiations with the family, they agreed to reduce the amount Rs600,000. However, the kidnappers killed their captive and dumped his body into an underground water tank of a house. The body was recovered on May 30.
The judge directed the investigation officer of the case to submit charge-sheet on the next date of hearing.
A case (FIR No.223/08) was registered at the Darakhshan police station.
