Eight players training hard: World Junior Squash

ISLAMABAD, June 20: Eights players are undergoing extensive training at the Mushaf Squash Complex in build up for Men’s World Junior squash championship and CIMB Malaysia Open.

Aamir Atlas, Farhan Zaman, Shoaib Hasan, Nausherwan and Waqar Mehboob will represent Pakistan in the former event in August at Zurich, Switzerland.

Mansoor Zaman, Farhan Mehboob and Yasir Butt will feature in the latter tournament, scheduled to be played from July 21 to 28.

Farhan Mehboob told Dawn on Friday that he would try to win the competition in Malaysia.

He said: “I am happy to be trained by world class coaches like Fahim Gul and Fazal Shah.”

Aamir Atlas, who is the top seed at the Zurich event, said: “Pakistan will recover its lost title of the World Junior championship after 25 years if I continue my winning streak.”

Both the players said they were optimistic about the revival of squash in Pakistan.

Aamir slammed Jansher Khan for criticising the declining standard of coaching and the game in the country.

“Now the revival of squash is near. I think Jansher’s criticism is unfair,” Aamir concluded.
