Govt to be pressed for releasing Dr A.Q. Khan

ISLAMABAD, June 22: Khan Release Liaison Committee (KRLC) on Sunday announced that it would shortly kick off a countrywide movement to press the government for early release of nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.

“The exact time for the initiation of the movement will be announced in a couple of days,” KRLC Chairman Hassamul Haq told reporters at Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club’s camp office.

The committee was formed four years ago when Dr Khan was put into virtual house arrest in 2004, but it remained inactive for the last three years.

“We have again entered the arena after Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani announced commutation of sentences of all male inmates having age of 65 and above and all female prisoners having age of 60 and above,” committee’s secretary Dr Shafiqur Rehman said.
