Party quits coalition

A KEY political party pulled out of the coalition ruling Indian occupied Kashmir on Saturday, saying the government had not revoked a disputed decision to provide land to a Hindu group, officials said.

“We have decided to withdraw our support to the coalition government as the government has not revoked the land transfer order,” Mehbooba Mufti, People’s Democratic Party chief, told journalists.

“We can’t remain insensitive to the sufferings of the people,” Ms Mufti said, referring to the use of force by authorities against people demanding the order be revoked.—AFP
