PJF strives to promote judo in Pakistan
KARACHI, June 30: After successful completion of the National Men’s Judo Championship in Abbottabad over the weekend, President of the Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF), Col Rana Shujaat Ali, announced the holding of the National Women’s Judo Championship in the first week of August.
The date for the women’s event was set during the federation’s first executive committee meeting under its new management on Monday. The tournament is to take place at the indoor hall of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), the same venue where the men’s competition was held.
Names of chairman and vice-president for the federation were also approved at the meeting with Waseen Hashmi from Sindh and Rafaqatullah Babar from the NWFP filling the posts, respectively.
The nomination of two women, Irum Shehzadi of Police and Naeema Bashir of Balochistan, as committee members was also considered and accepted. Other committee members include Major Zulfiqar (Army), Tariq Sheikh (Punjab), Liaquat Ali (Wapda), Basheer Ahmad Khan (Balochistan), Dr S. Jafri (NWFP).
Members at the meeting also formed a disciplinary committee to look into matters of holding further national, inter-provincial, inter-departmental and inter-city judo competitions along with organising technical courses for referees and judges while promoting martial arts in Pakistan.
