HYDERABAD: Polio cases: situation in Sindh alarming

HYDERABAD, July 1: Director Administration of the D-G health office Sindh, Abdul Majeed Chuttho, has said that an alarming situation has developed in Sindh after detection of 10 polio cases in the province.

He said that explanation letters to EDOs of five districts had already been issued for lack of interest and negligence.

He was addressing doctors in the Institute of Medical Sciences Shahdadpur, Sanghar district, on Tuesday while inaugurating a three-day polio campaign.

He said that situation was very critical in Sindh as far as polio cases were concerned. He said that EDOs must cover all refusal cases in which children had not been vaccinated. He said that if EDOs failed to cover them, strict action would be taken against them.

He said that explanation letter were issued to five EDOs of Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Shikarpur and Larkana by the provincial secretary health. He added that 6,52,9463 children of five years of age would be vaccinated in Sindh.

He said that polio cases detected in Sindh had their origins of different districts.

He said that for the campaign 16,270 mobile teams had been formed to ensure that no child is left from vaccination.
