HYDERABAD: Tax targets surpassed

HYDERABAD, July 2: The Collectorate of Customs, Sales Tax and Federal Excise Hyderabad has claimed of not only achieving targets but also surpassing them during 2007-08.

Deputy Collector, Sales Tax and Federal Excise Wing Hyderabad Collectorate, M.Farooq Azam Memon in a statement on Wednesday said that Rs4,409.149 million were collected on account of customs duty against the target of Rs3800 million; Rs5314.116 million in sales tax (domestic) against Rs5286 million; Rs935.356 million in federal excise duty against Rs850 million; and Rs4,640.794 million in sales tax on imports for which no target was assigned.

This was made possible because of extraordinary efforts of officers and staff of the Collectorate headed by Collector Syed Jalaluddin Shah, said Memon.

He said many industries which used to pay huge taxes were shifted to other collectorates and many factories defaulted on payments. He said the Collectorate kept on priority, facilitation to taxpayers.

In recognition to extraordinary efforts and achievements, the Federal Board of Revenue had granted cash rewards, he said.
