ARY’s vehicle recovered

ISLAMABAD, July 2: The city police have recovered the Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) vehicle of ARY TV channel from NWFP. The vehicle was snatched at gunpoint from capital on June 16.

Senior Superintendent of Police Capt (retired) Ahmad Latif in a press conference here on Wednesday said that the driver, technical staff and cameraman of the channel riding in the DSNG (Toyota Hi-ace) were coming from Peshawar on the night of June 16.

A group of five gunmen intercepted the vehicle when it reached Kuchra Ground, Tarnol and help up the occupants of the vehicle at gunpoint.

Two of the robbers took the vehicle, in which equipments worth more than Rs40 million were installed, towards NWFP.

The other three stayed back with the detainees to give the opportunity to their accomplices to reach their destination. Later they too escaped leaving the detainees at the deserted place.

A team, including Assistant Superintendent of Police Sadar Farrukh Rasheed, Station House Officer Tarnol Inspector Tanveer Ahmad Abbasi was constituted to investigate the incident and recover the vehicle.
