Man shot dead; woman burnt to death

RAWALPINDI, July 3: A man was shot dead by his rivals while a woman was allegedly burnt to death by her in-laws in various areas of Rawalpindi on Thursday.

In the first incident Asim Nawaz told Rawat police that he along with his father Rab Nawaz had gone to a village in Rawat to attend a funeral. When they were returning, two armed men, Yasir Mehmood and Mohammad Khalid, appeared before the vehicle and opened fire. As a result, Rab Nawaz died on the spot. He alleged that the motive behind the murder was old enmity.

Asim said his uncle, Malik Farhat, and his son, Mohammad Zaryab, were coming behind them on their motorcycle when his father was shot. On seeing the men, they started screaming which forced the attackers to flee.

In another incident, Sikandar Zaman, lodged a complaint with Kallar Syedan police, in which he alleged that the in-laws of his sister, Sajida Bibi, had burnt her in Khalsa village over some domestic issue.

He alleged that his sister was married to Khalid Mehmood 25 years ago and his brother-in-law used to beat her often. It was on the night of June 10 that Sajida was brought to a hospital with burn injuries.
