KARACHI, July 8: Awami National Party’s Sindh President Shahi Syed has condemned Monday’s bomb blasts in the city and termed them a conspiracy to destroy peace of the city.

Speaking at a press conference at his residence on Tuesday, the ANP leader described the series of blasts a continuation of the May 12 events and a plot to destabilise the democratic government.

He also criticised City Nazim Mustafa Kamal for his recent outburst against the Pakhtuns and demanded that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement remove him from the office of nazim for his “irresponsible statements”.

Jamaat-i-Islami deputy chief Prof Ghafoor Ahmad said the bomb blasts were a conspiracy hatched to destroy peace of the city by triggering ethnic riots but the people were wise enough to foil the plot and prove that they wanted peace to prevail in the city and the country.

He expressed these views during his visit to a local hospital to inquire after the health of children injured in Monday’s bomb blasts. He sympathised with family members of those injured in the incidents and prayed for an early recovery of the injured.

Prof Ghafoor also asked the government to make proper arrangement for the treatment of the injured.

JI Karachi Amir Mohammad Hussain Mehnati said if the people involved in May 12 tragedy had been arrested there would have been no recurrence of the incidents.

Sindh Minister for Health Dr Saghir Ahmed has condemned the series of bomb blasts in Karachi and termed it a conspiracy to sabotage the peaceful environment and create lawlessness in the city, adding that the government would thwart this conspiracy with the cooperation of the masses.

Visiting the injured of the blasts at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the minister expressed solidarity with them. He said he shared the grief of the affected families.

He said that following the blasts, an emergency had been declared in all government hospitals and leaves of all the doctors and paramedics cancelled, adding that the staff was ordered to remain on duty for 24 hours. He assured the injured that their treatment would be done at government expenses.

Dr Ahmed further said that the government had ordered the provision of all required medicines in the emergency departments of government hospitals of the province.

He said that anti-social elements wanted to create unrest and anarchy in the country to destabilize the democratic government and to weaken the economy. He said he was optimistic that these anti-social elements could not succeed in their evil designs. He said there had been a conspiracy to fan ethnic riots in the city but people from all walks of life foiled this conspiracy.

Dr Saghir appreciated efforts of the doctors and paramedics in providing proper treatment to the victims. The minister also praised the city nazim for his efforts.
