Hockey legend Charlesworth gives up Indian job

NEW DELHI, July 11: Hockey legend Ric Charlesworth has resigned from his post of technical advisor with Indian hockey and flown back to Australia, top officials said on Friday.

Charlesworth, 54, quit four months after being formally given the job in March to revive Indian hockey after the eight-time Olympic champions failed to qualify for the Beijing Games for the first time.

“He was not too happy with the system in India and preferred to resign,” Aslam Sher Khan, who heads the ad hoc committee running the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF), said.—AFP
