ICC to brief teams on Pakistan security

NEW DELHI, July 18: The International Cricket Council (ICC) will brief representatives of the eight Champions Trophy teams on Sunday about security for the September ODI tournament in Pakistan.

In a statement on Thursday the ICC said that team representatives, the International Cricketers' Associations and official broadcasters would attend the meeting at the world governing body's Dubai headquarters.

Pakistan has been hit by a series of suicide bombings this year and, although the situation had eased since February's general election, eight people were killed in an attack in the capital Islamabad on the night of the Asia Cup final this month.

The ICC has said it could move the event if the security situation warranted.

"Prior to the meeting the ICC will not indulge in speculation and, at this stage, the tournament will proceed in Pakistan, as scheduled," the ICC release said. Matches are scheduled for Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi from September 11-28.—Agencies
