No more illegal detention: IGP

SHEIKHUPURA, July 20: Punjab IGP Shaukat Javed says that illegal detention will not be tolerated and only guilty people will be arrested.

He says the one dish law must be implemented in marriage ceremonies and strict action shall be taken against the people involved in canal water theft and adulteration in pesticides.

The IGP expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of police officers of the Sheikhupura Range here on Sunday.

Sheikhupura RPO Tanvir Ahmad, DPO Zaeem Iqbal Sheikh, Nankana Sahib DPO Akbar Nasir and other senior officers were also present.

Mr Javed directed the field police officers to prepare the list of target offenders involved in heinous crimes for the last five years and special teams should be constituted for their arrest. These lists should be available to the SHOs of every police station. He said that strict action would be taken against the officials for failing to register cases. He further said that Elite Force should be utilized according to the law.

He said a separate investigation wing would work under the SP’s supervision for investigation of heinous crime more effectively, but the SHO, DSP and DPO concerned would also be responsible in this regard.

The IGP further directed police officers to take steps for controlling the canal water theft so that the provision of water could be ensured to farmers at the tail-end.

He also directed to form special teams to check the smuggling of wheat and vehicles thus confiscated should not be given on “sapurdari” till 30 days.

Mr Javed asked the officials to take legal action against the people found involved in the adulteration of pesticides.

He urged the police officers to direct owners of petrol pumps, money changers and business centers to hire security guards for their protection under the Shops Establishment and Security Act.
