Students continue protests in Quetta

QUETTA, July 20: Activists of the Baloch Students’ Action Committee torched tyres and blocked roads in different areas of the provincial capital on Sunday to press for admission to the University of Information and Technology on the basis of quota.

All factions of the organisation are supporting the quota-based system while the Pukhtunkhwa Students’ Organisation, Pukhtun Students’ Federation and Hazara Students’ Federation want admissions on the basis of merit.

Meanwhile, condition of three BSO activists, Qamar Baloch, Khurshid Baloch and Qayyum Baloch, who have been on hunger strike for 10 days, has deteriorated.

The protesters rejected a committee formed by the governor to resolve the issue and demonstrated on various roads, disrupting traffic for about two hours.

The action committee has given a call for a shutter-down strike in the city on Monday and a wheel-jam on Tuesday.
