Afridi may miss T20 event in Canada

KARACHI, July 26: Pakistan’s experienced all-rounder Shahid Afridi may miss next month’s four-nation Twenty20 tournament in Canada, a Pakistan Cricket Board official said here on Saturday.

Afridi is currently attending his wife, who has been unwell for a while.

In addition to his domestic problem, the Karachi-based player is also awaiting an MRI report on his injured wrist.

Afridi will get the report on Monday after which it will be decided whether he can feature in the Toronto quadrangular to be played from Aug 14 to 17.

“We will consider Afridi for the tournament only when he is fit,” chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed said on Saturday.

Afridi has been going through a lean patch, especially with the bat, and was dropped from Pakistan’s last Asia Cup match against Bangladesh.

Apart from the unimpressive form, the star all-rounder is also facing fitness problems as he has been enduring a painful wrist in recent times, finding it difficult to bowl his leg-spinners.

The 28-year-old also missed Pakistan’s conditioning camp that concluded at the Kakul’s military academy on Saturday.

His inclusion in the side may depend on his availability for practice games which will be played in Lahore next month before leaving for Toronto.
