Adam Nayyar’s death widely condoled

ISLAMABAD, July 30: Tributes continue to pour in over death of one of the country’s highly respected ethnomusicologist, Dr Adam Nayyar, who passed away here on Tuesday morning.

“He was a rare visionary man of culture,” said Iftikhar Arif, Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters expressing his grief over the sad demise of Dr Nayyar.

“He played remarkable role in promoting progressive image of the country,” Iftikhar Arif said adding. “He will be remembered as one of the few intellectuals and ethnomusicologist who contributed immensely to the cultural life of the country and the world music.

In his death Pakistan has lost one of the finest cultural and intellectual personalities, he added.

Saddened by the demise of Dr Adam Nayyar, the newly appointed Executive Director of Lok Virsa, Mazharul Islam said he was a fine human being, scholar and intellectual.

“The nation will remember his contributions for the promotion of country’s folk and Sufi music.”

Columnist Mushir Anwar in his condolence message said Dr Adam Nayyar was a scholarly person and enriched many with his immense knowledge on several subjects. The void he has left in intellectual circles is palpable indeed.

Renowned poet, Kishwar Nahid remembered Dr Nayyar as a highly learned and skilled individual.

“Whether it was in the field of music or anthropology, Dr Nayyar was a master in all. But at the same time, a very humble human being,” she said. Meanwhile, Constance C. Jones, First Secretary of US Embassy, on Wednesday met the director general of PNCA to condole the demise of Dr Nayyar.

Qul: The Qul of Dr Adam Nayyar will be held at House 12, Street 80 (near Covered Market), G-6/4 on Thursday at 6:30pm. Dua will be offered at 7.30pm.
