Aamir, Waqar enter quarter-finals: Junior Squash

LONDON, July 30: Top seed Aamir Atlas Khan and compatriot Waqar Mehboob were through to the quarter-finals of the World Junior Mentrade’s Squash Championship, being contested in the Swiss city of Zurich.

Favourite Amir Atlas, who has yet to drop a game in the competition, brushed aside the last remaining USA player Todd Harrity by winning 9-0, 9-2, 9-1.

On the other hand, Waqar needed 67 minutes to overcome Hong Kong’s Asian Junior champion Leo Au 9-2, 8-10, 9-4, 9-3 and he now faces fourth seed Gregoire Marche.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Ivan Yuen became the only surprise name to join the last eight line-up when he beat Pakistan’s Farhan Zaman.

Yuen faced unexpected opponent in Zaman after he pulled off a mighty upset earlier in the day by beating England’s Joe Lee.

Yuen beat Zaman recovering from a game down to win 0-9, 9-1, 9-5, 9-7 in 66 minutes to secure his unexpected quarter-final slot.

El Shorbagy is joined by Egyptian compatriot Andrew Wagih Shoukry in the last eight after he defeated Pakistan’s Shoaib Hassan 9-6, 3-9, 9-4, 9-4.
