Waziristan attacks: new group claims responsibility

MIRAMSHAH, Aug 6: A newly-formed militant group has claimed the responsibility for three attacks on security forces in South Waziristan and warned of more action if the army moved against the Taliban in tribal areas.

Ahmadullah Ahmadi, the spokesman for Tehrik-i-Taliban Movement, said his group had carried out the attacks to avenge the recent missile raids on Taliban positions in Waziristan. The group was formed by a local militant ‘commander’ identifying himself as Hafiz Gul Bhadur.

Mr Ahmadi said the attacks had been carried out in retaliation for army action.

Urging the government to halt army action, the spokesman said that his group had attacked the soldiers in South Waziristan’s Civil Colony, Humrang and Zanai localities.
