No change in Aug 14 deadline: lawyers

ATTOCK, Aug 9: Local lawyers on Saturday ruled out any change in the August 14 deadline which they have set for the government to restore the deposed judges.

They said the coalition government had put the judges’ issue into the backburner by deciding to go for the impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf first.

Senior lawyers including Rana Afsar Ali Khan and Sheikh Ahsanuddin warned that if the government failed to impeach the president, he would not hesitate to invoke Article 58(2)-B and send the assemblies packing.

“Therefore, the coalition government should restore the deposed judges before impeaching the president,” they said.

Meanwhile, Coordinator, Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) Attock, Rana Liaquat Ali Khan has welcomed the announcement of PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif to impeach President Musharraf.
