16 Bajwat villages inundated

SIALKOT, Aug 11: At least 16 villages of Bajwat were inundated by floodwaters of rivers Chenab and Tavi on Monday after heavy rains in their catchment areas, destroying standing crops over thousands of hectares of land.

Residents of villages Thathi, Jhumiyaan, Khanu, Jhumiyaan Dalalaan, Jog, Kug, Papeen, Salehpur, Chaprar-Kaliyaal, Saidpur, Sidhpur and Kothey continued shifting with their cattle heads towards safer places.

According to official sources, there was a medium-level flood in the Chenab at Marala with 188,551 cusecs discharge, which was gradually rising. Nullahs in this district, including Deg near Pasrur, Aik and Palkhu near Sialkot were also overflowing.

DCO Atta Khan told reporters the situation was under control.

Punjab Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tanvirul Islam on Monday visited Pasrur tehsil’s flood-hit villages after Nullah Deg overflowed near Rasulpur Kakey Zaiyaan and Seeowal localities owing to breached embankments on Saturday.
