Demographic imbalance in Balochistan feared

QUETTA, Aug 16: The National Party has said that allotment of land to Pakistan Air Force and a private company in Lasbela and settlement of outsiders in Gwadar are aimed at depriving the Baloch people of their land.

A leader of the party said that population influx from other provinces into Balochistan would convert the majority natives into a minority.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday after a meeting of the party’s executive committee, NP information secretary Jan Mohammad Buledi said that about 600,000 acres of land had been allotted to a particular company at a price of Re1 per acre and 200,000 acres of land to PAF in Lyari area of the Lasbela district.

He said the party had set up the Mir Ghous Bakhsh Bizenjo Trust to rehabilitate those people of Dera Bugti and Kohlu districts who had migrated to other areas during the military operation.

He said that whenever the Baloch raised voice against injustices the rulers launched military operations and arrested political activists to suppress their struggle.

Jan Buledi said there would be no political stability in the country till the government realised that all federating units should have equal rights and granted powers to them to control their resources.

He said the NP supported impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf and held him responsible for the prevailing uncertainty in the country.

He said the president should be tried for killing innocent people in military operations.

He said the party would remain part of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) and Pakistan Oppressed Nations’ Movement (PONAM) and continue its efforts in consultation with other Baloch political groups to re-launch a collective struggle against usurpers.
