Sindh celebrates Musharraf’s resignation

HYDERABAD, Aug 18: The interior of Sindh erupted into jubilations at the resignation of General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf from the post President of Pakistan on Monday.

In a spontaneous reaction to the announcement of resignation, activists of the PPP and PML-N and members of the civil society came out on roads, staged Bhangra dance, embraced one another and distributed sweets.

In Hyderabad, activists of PPP, PML-N, Tehrik-e-Insaaf and other parties held rallies in different localities of the city and outside the local press club. The youth wing of PPP, led by its president Ahsan Abro, was in the forefront. They danced on the beat of drum and distributed sweets among the journalists.

President PPP Hyderabad and Sindh minister for fisheries, Zahid Ali Bhurgari, Amanullah Siyal and other leaders termed the resignation of Musharraf as a victory of 160 million people of Pakistan.

The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association, Sindh chapter leaders, Dr Syed Inayatullah Shah and Badar Soomro, in a joint statement congratulated the people of Pakistan, specially the people of Sindh on the resignation of Pervez Musharraf.

Sindh Hari Committee president, comrade Azhar Jatoi, has termed the resignation of Musharraf as the victory of democracy.

The chairman of JSQM, Basheer Qureshi, in his statement said that the destiny of Sindh will not change with the removal of Pervez Musharraf unless all decisions taken by him against the oppressed nations were revoked.

SUP president, Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah in a statement said that democracy cannot take roots unless all decisions were taken by the parliament and the usurpers were made accountable. He said, the process will remain incomplete unless all the deposed judges, including Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, were reinstated.

The general body of South Asia Lawyers Forums, Pakistan chapter, at a meeting has demanded of Asif Ali Zardari, Mian Nawaz Sharif and other heads of the coalition parties to elect Justice (Rtd) Wajihuddin Ahmed as the next President of Pakistan.

In Tando Mohammad Khan, hundreds of PPP, Peoples Youth, SPSF and other subordinate wings of the party, led by the district president Haji Mohammad Amin Lakho, took out a rally to celebrate the resignation of Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf.

In Dadu, PPP and PML-N activist took out rallies and distributed sweets in Dadu, Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Johi and Sehwan. PPP activists led by MPA Kulsoom Chandio, Dost Ali Jessar and Mohammad Umer Panhwar took out procession and also visited Mazar of Qalandar Lal Shahbaz and distributed sweets.

In Shikarpur, activists of political and religious parties took out rallies while some groups danced on city roads in Shikarpur and other taluka headquarter towns

Youngsters took out a procession from Butro and played musical instruments including drums to express their sentiments. They marched on different roads and chowks of Khairpur city to express their happiness.

In Mirpurkhas, hundreds of PPP activists, including women wing workers, took out a rally from party’s city office to mark the resignation of President Musharraf. Led by district president, Haji Noor Hassan Chandio they marched on main roads while some of the participants resorted to aerial firing.

Jamat Islami activists also took out a rally from Madina Masjid. Participants led by district Ameer JI, Zafar Iqbal Mujahid marched on main roads and reached Market chowk.

In Sanghar, sweets were distributed and hundreds of people exchanged SMS messages to congratulate each other. Many people were seen dancing in jubilation.

PPP activists also took out a rally in Khipro, Thatta, Badin, Naushahro Feroze and Sukkur jubilant activists of PPP, PML-N and youth wings came on the roads and resorted to aerial firing.
