HYDERABAD, Aug 25: Post-graduate doctors who have cleared a test conducted by the National Testing Services for jobs of eye-nose-throat, cardiology and chest specialists have complained of not being called for interviews by the Sindh Public Services Commission on the plea that there are no vacancies.

Speaking at a news conference here on Monday, Dr Syed Saulat Jafri and other leaders of the NTS-pass Postgraduate Doctors Action Committee said that in November last, 10,000 doctors and paramedics appeared in the NTS test of which only 1,600 could pass.

The then Sindh chief minister directed the officials concerned to call for interview all qualified doctors and paramedical staff and specialists and issue them appointment letters.

The SPSC issued an advertisement asking all candidates to deposit their documents which was accordingly followed, they said.

While all the NTS pass doctors and paramedics were issued interview letters, the ENT, cardiology, and chest specialists were ignored they said adding that on contacting the Commission, it was revealed the Sindh Health Department did not furnish them such a list.

The Health Department officials could not provide a satisfactory answer, creating confusion in the minds of specialist doctors, they said.

The understanding that there were no vacancies in these three disciplines was totally wrong, they said and claimed that 16 cardiologists, 22 chest and 26 ENT specialists cleared the NTS test while there were more vacant posts in these disciplines.

They wondered as to why they were not called for interview when the number of vacant posts exceeded the number of NTS pass specialists and appealed to the Sindh chief minister to restore justice to them.

RALLY: Activists of the minority wing of Pakistan People’s Party organised a rally in Tando Mohammad Khan on Monday to celebrate the nomination of party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari for president.

Their leader Dr Ashok Kumar said that Mr Zardari had boldly faced the crisis confronting the country and had proved his metal to become president.

He said it was due to political acumen of Asif Ali Zardari that a dictator like Pervez Musharraf was forced to resign.

He called upon the Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif to support the candidature of Zardari in the interest of democracy.
